The classroom·What a language model is·Reasoning models, plainly
It thinks out loud first. That helps, and it costs.
On the call, we would ask
- Which of your tasks are one-step, and which have a chain of steps?
- Would you rather wait ten seconds for a better answer, or get one now?
- Is anyone checking the working, or only the result?
- What does the tool charge per answer, and does thinking count?
In this unit: What a language model is
- Why it guesses the next word
- Why it sounds so sure
- What it cannot know
- Reasoning models, plainly
